Eschenheimer Turm is one of Frankfurt’s oldest and most recognizable landmarks. History
Eschenheimer Turm was built between 1400 and 1428 as part of Frankfurt's second medieval city wall. It served as a fortified gate controlling access to the city from the north and was one of approximately 60 towers protecting Frankfurt.
Unlike most of the city's fortifications, which were demolished in the early 19th century to allow urban expansion, Eschenheimer Turm was spared because of its architectural and historical significance. Today, it remains one of the finest examples of medieval military architecture in Germany.
