At Restaurante Banana da Terra, you're not just dining; you're embarking on a culinary journey through the region's rich traditions. Nestled in the historic centre, this Paraty institution has been a beacon of caiçara cuisine since 1994, under the expert guidance of Chef Ana Bueno. Every dish, from the signature fish with banana-da-terra (plantain) to the seasonal seafood creations, tells a story of local ingredients and time-honored recipes. Whether you're exploring the town or seeking a special dinner, Banana da Terra offers an unforgettable dining experience that's as authentic as it is delightful.

A Paraty food institution, Banana da Terra has been championing the region's traditional coastal cooking since 1994. Chef Ana Bueno builds the menu around local ingredients: fish and seafood from Paraty Bay, produce from the family's own vegetable garden and from small local producers, some of it from nearby Cunha. The dish to try is fish with banana-da-terra (plantain), Paraty's trademark combination. The menu is refreshed every season with new seafood creations alongside the house classics. It's set in a colonial house in the historic centre, with tables in a charming garden. This is a more upscale, sit-down meal than most in town: ideal for a special dinner after a day exploring Paraty.

History

Banana da Terra opened in 1994, celebrating 30 years in 2024. Chef Ana Bueno, originally from São Paulo, has run it ever since. Over three decades it has become one of the most important advocates of caiçara cuisine, the traditional cooking of the coastal communities between the Atlantic Forest and the sea. The chef works directly with local fishermen and producers.
