A Perfect Food Morning in Downtown São Paulo
Start at the Sé Cathedral, then walk ten minutes to Patio do Colégio, the exact spot where São Paulo was founded in 1554. From there, head to the Municipal Market for the famous mortadella sandwich and fresh tropical fruit.
The route
- Sé Cathedral — meet outside the main steps at 9am, before the crowds.
- Patio do Colégio — coffee and pão de queijo at the museum café.
- Liberdade — Japan Town lunch: pastel with sugarcane juice, then melon pan for dessert.
- 25 de Março — walk off lunch people-watching through the market street.
Practical tips
- Go on a weekday morning; the market halls are calmer and vendors offer samples.
- Bring small bills for street stalls. Most accept Pix too.
- The whole walk is about 3 km and mostly flat.
Downtown São Paulo rewards walkers: every corner has a story, and every bakery has something worth tasting.
